Re: OT: Logging-In Issues at Altec User Board

Altec Best, a couple of pages back you made some comments about Lansing heritage being a "Just Big and Loud" site, or some such. As a co-founder there I am saddened by this, as we founded the site to pay respects to Jim Lansing and all the work that sprang forth from his efforts. It is true that the literature collection on LH is heavier with JBL stuff and likewise the forum conversations lean more toward JBL, but this was never by design. When we began our research JBL made themselves and their literature archive available to us, where Altec was just about gone. I have not noticed (nor would I tolerate) any discrimination against Altec equipment or enthusiasts in the LH discussion forums, and have helped to answer many questions, at least about the older stuff with which I am most familiar.

With my perspective of history which includes the products of Lansing Manufacturing Company, I see Altec and JBL as springing forth from the same source. I enjoy and appreciate Todd's site very much and try to add to the discussions here when I can. I hope that you can see how an us vs. them argument would make me cringe, as I see our two sites as having much in common and much to celebrate.

First let me say Steve that there was no disrespect meant or implied it was just a Joke nothing more.I would like to see nothing more than all three Lansing endeavors see equal praise. As far as the site goes I like it very much.I guess it was more to wards the members who always have something negative to say about Altec. As you know I personally like Altec the BEST, there isn't any doubt about that. I guess what bothers me most about LH is.That unsuspecting Folks who are looking for help/assistance on their Altec's are essentially ignored by the majority.Their threads can go weeks with very little replies. It has become pretty much a JBL only forum, like it or not.

The site has even gotten pretty rude sometimes that I can even qoute from an LH Administrator, if necessary, remember the thread well. And that was about a pair of 4350's go figure. And that was against a Brand New Member, weeks old, he hasn't posted there since.I'm not the only person saddened at the path the site has taken in recent years.See I read all the Altec threads first on LH so I'm well aware of the disdain for Altec on LH.This is the most recent thread, I don't want to list them all as it isn't necessary this is just a recent example of a thread where I tried to help this gentleman and these are the kind of replies I'm talking about "No Doubt" a JBL enthusiast. It just gets old Steve.I don't care about which site is better argument. My only concern here was to try and Help Todd make his site the Best it can be any way I can Help Out.For Altec enthusiasts ! Steve I told you before on LH I always enjoyed your posts over there about any Lansing Heritage History, and yours were always some of the first posts I would read.Unfortunately you aren't able to post often enough these days ! :2thumbsup: Best Wishes !

Nice to see this moving forward.

If anyone has Altec lit that needs to be scanned, I volunteer to do it. :waver:
As high quality scanning used to be my job, I consider myself rather good at it. Also darn good at optimizing the trades offs of file size vs quality, which is important for a web archive.

If this turns out to be something that is needed, I'll start a new thread.

I've got a lot of scans already, the problem I see is that a lot of us probably have duplicates and sorting that out maybe a problem not to mention sorting it into one place. But I have a lot more that isn't scanned yet, time consuming to say the least.I can understand Todd's dilemma fer sure ! But you may get a bundle in the mail.Problem it's going to look like a New York Times newspaper bundle. And would very much enjoy the expression on your face when it arrives ! :2thumbsup:

No worries! Glad to do it. Getting this stuff on the Internet where anyone can find it is great. I'd love to do my part. Started doing some of this back in 1995. It's a kick. Making it searchable would be superb.

    I'll look into that.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have Don Davis's 'Considerations in Acousta-Voicing Studio Monitors' article (pub AL 1068) originally printed up in db magazine in their stash?
